Based on lack of response and a consistent winner we decided to drop that poll this year. If there is sufficient demand we will of course consider bringing it back next year.

When will the results be announced (Polls closing)???

drokmed 01-03-2007 02:29 PM

Some fun polls like "age" and "hair length (dudes)" might be interesting :)

coolguy_2005,

The answer to your question is in the first post of this thread.

Lack of response to file manager poll...? I can not believe it. It was one of the active and interesting polls. How come security app. poll has more interest? I am not a complete dummy but have a little clue about security progs mentioned in it and I heard about one or two. My favorite poll is not present, so boring.

We try to do what is in the best interest of the LQ community in general (which is 300,000 strong at this point). As mentioned, if there is sufficient feedback on the polls we removed, we'll happily bring them back next year.

Homepage links

I have a small suggestion. There are many applications in the polls that I have no idea of. And maybe one or the other applications listed would actually better suited for my needs instead of the one i'm using right now.

So my suggestion is that we add links to the home pages of the respective applications, just so we can see what they are all about. This can be done in the first post (usually by Jeremy) right after the poll. And I don't think it would take much time or effort... I understand its not like you're just lazing about here at LQ. You've got a lot on your hands but it would be nice :)

Just my :twocents:

A quick search should allow you to find any of the projects easily, but we'll keep this in mind for next year.

Yes, I would like to see the File Manager poll brought back for next year. And I would also suggest adding a OTHER selection to the polls next year for those of us who use lesser known programs.

Where is File Manager of the year poll ? I agree. It would be great to see this category included. I install & use Thunar & Konqeuror regardless of what desktop environment or window manager I'm using.

Happy GNU year! http://www.gnu.org/

Website of the year, other than the obvious winner linuxquestions.org

Or maybe podcast of the year, other than yours obviously :)

But I would love to be able to vote all at once in the same page, it saves lots of times, the number of awards is clutered enough as to add another one.

Make that 'Linux Website', there are many websites that beat LQ :D

The File manager poll should be re-instated next year. It is one important piece of application.

Otherwise, Xfmedia is still missing. It might deserve some attention.

Liviu
