Welcome to the 2006 Members Choice Awards
Welcome to the 2006 Members Choice Awards. The polls aren't open yet, but I'm allowing people to get an idea of what's going on so they can suggest new nominees very early in the process. Remember, if you don't see your favorite choice listed you should suggest it in the thread (and not vote right away as you can only vote once). Have fun and good luck to all the nominees. The polls should officially open tomorrow and will close on February 18th.

All polls have now been posted. If you have any suggestions, please make them ASAP (although suggestions will be accepted for a short time after the polls open also). A reminder that voting officially opens tomorrow.

I like this idea of keeping the polls closed. It's like "voter information literature." You get to see your choices before you formulate your answers. I'll definitely be back tomorrow to cast my vote.

EDIT: What would the opposition be to having a choice for "Other" with the suggestion that the alternate choice be explained in the thread? This way everyone has some reason to vote even if their preference isn't listed in the poll.

The polls are now open!

Yay, voting time.

I'd appreciate it if you'd add cmus to the audio player poll.

And what? No love for the *BSD bigots in the distributions or live CD polls? :)

A few things about awards Jeremy, please look into it.

Where is File Manager of the year poll ?

Old_Fogie 01-01-2007 04:15 AM

I would like to see a poll something to the effect of "reason for using linux" (a) free as in speech (b) free speech (c) great way to kill time (d) reason to escape nagging wife (e) other (f) all of the above :D

titanium_geek 01-01-2007 04:47 AM

Old_Fogie, general forum. :) It would be fun. :)

Jeremy, I know that you don't want to show the "right now" results, hence the "
Thank you for Voting on this poll. The results will be announced shortly!" message- but then you can't see the candidates after till the votes are counted.

Just a thought.

edit: you'd use this if you voted for your choice, but saw something and you're like "ooh! I haven't seen that one in a while wonder what that one is like... google google"
edit edit: yeah I know, in a perfect world you'd research all the options before voting.

To answer some of the questions:

* We dropped the File Manager poll due to lack of response.
* We have no plans to change the poll infrastructure at this point in the polling process, but we'll keep that in mind for next year.
* Please make any suggestions for additions in the actual thread for the poll.

I did make the suggestion in the audio thread but I think it's been overlooked. No real worries though. It will be found soon enough. And I'm not going to make real suggestions about adding BSD systems to the distro's polls, since this is LQ. That's why I threw that comment over here and was non-specific about it.

I do love the polls though. Lots of fun to see what other people are using.

Next year we should have a desktop poll to see who has the best customized desktop based on looks.

odd2k 01-02-2007 07:37 AM

Are the poll results closed to everyone, or is it just me? I guess they won't be displayed for a while still?

jeremy 01-02-2007 10:32 AM

The results are not available until the polls are closed.
