Browser of the Year

What browser do you prefer when browsing LQ?

traene 12-30-2006 03:36 PM

I use Firefox

itsjustme 12-30-2006 03:38 PM

I use firefox

hand of fate 12-30-2006 05:16 PM

A minor point, but there shouldn't be a space between "Sea" and "Monkey".

I'll definitely be voting for SeaMonkey when the poll opens.

jeremy 12-30-2006 05:19 PM

Fixed - thanks.

I haven't voted on anything yet, because I can't.

All it shows is the results

XavierP 12-30-2006 06:34 PM

As per https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...d.php?t=514928 voting isn't yet open. This is a handy preview so you can see what the voting will be for and to query any of the options. Tomorrow (31/12/2007 or 12/31/2007 if you're weird :)) is when voting opens.

zetabill 12-30-2006 07:03 PM

Firefox has my vote although I've used lynx on occasion when I mess up X and need information. ;)

I hope we don't have to wait a whole year to vote for the 2006 winners.

rickh 12-31-2006 12:51 PM

I mainly use IceWeasel, and as a Debianite, I'm not comfortable choosing Firefox so I picked SeaMonkey, even tho it's really IceApe.

alaskazimm 12-31-2006 01:29 PM

Been using FireFox for years. I see no reason to choose anything else.

ganooch 12-31-2006 01:31 PM

Mozilla Firefox

puntjuh 12-31-2006 03:47 PM

FireFox all the way!

KEJP 12-31-2006 04:02 PM

A vote for Galeon here - I can't be the only one?

Hitboxx 12-31-2006 06:44 PM

Do i need to say? Of course Firefox!

stingo 12-31-2006 07:52 PM

why firefox? :) Opera is older development, lightning fast, and well polished now for linux.

PhillipHuang 12-31-2006 09:26 PM

Firefox. and I think IE7.0 improved its performance and security, should also be noted.

No source.

FredGSanford 12-31-2006 11:09 PM

Firefox and Seamonkey for suite...

IBall 01-01-2007 01:09 AM

I use Debian - therefore Iceweasel all the way :)

TruongAn 01-01-2007 05:36 AM

Firefox will win again for sure, but I love opera, I hope it can rank second this year

craigevil 01-01-2007 09:37 AM

Firefox/Iceweasel all the way. Why, because it is fast and because of all the cool extensions and themes.

Firefox 2

Still Firefox. Nothing can beat it so far. I would miss my extensions and themes. But it would be great if they would at last improve their integration with KDE.

jag2000 01-01-2007 09:05 PM

no one chose Internet Explorer LOL

Hitboxx 01-02-2007 12:59 AM

Internet Explorer is for people living in gutters.

Fond_of_Opensource 01-02-2007 02:50 AM

Firefox.....!!!

prozac 01-02-2007 02:57 AM

Firefox!Firefox!Firefox!Firefox!Firefox!Firefox!

fcaraballo 01-02-2007 02:59 AM

I used Phoenix
I used Firebird
I use Firefox

Fake Edit: Can't remember what year it is :D

jswooden 01-02-2007 04:14 AM

Firefox,I haven't other choice. Anyone suggest another better one?

geofrs 01-02-2007 04:34 AM

Firefox

Firefox is my one and onlyxx

b0uncer 01-02-2007 04:43 AM

Of the browsers listed, Firefox works best when plugins count, Konqueror would me my second choice because it "just works", except that there are some sites where Konqueror does not work ;)

The others just don't work so smoothly as of now. And the FF-fork..well, it sounds kids games. Firefox ruled last year, and I guess it will this year too :)

edenCC 01-02-2007 04:45 AM

firefox is surely a memory monster, but I vote it, I'm familiar it only :(

noranthon 01-02-2007 05:21 AM

I vote for Swiftfox (not listed). When I installed version 2.0.1, I found all plugins were installed. I was so impressed by that, I'm going to make another donation soon.

diilbert 01-02-2007 05:26 AM

Firefox ;) It there really anything else ? Although lynx has saved me several times.

cincindie 01-02-2007 05:34 AM

I voted for FireFox even though I generally use Mozilla/SeaMonkey while visitng LQ. That's because I use SeaMonkey to visit sites that require cookies and FF for sites that do not.

hbush 01-02-2007 05:35 AM

SeaMonkey. Only Seamonkey has "Send Page" option which works correctly. It is so good to have possibility to send home exact copy of some interesting page whenever you want from. Afterwards you can use all benefits of mail search to process such pages collected as e-mails. "Send Link" doesn't cut it because WWW pages change so often and so quickly, links often disappear alltogether, contents later has been censored etc.

Firefox doesn't have "Send Page" despite multiple promises to make it. IE has it but it often does not work correctly.

Zayar Win 01-02-2007 05:50 AM

I have ok with Mozilla.

strangevarius 01-02-2007 07:07 AM

I vote firefox 2.0, even sometimes i've used flock or opera :p

eypros 01-02-2007 07:15 AM

Firefox

I voted firefox! I like its crossplatformness (I guess there is no word like this but I like making word up)! ;)

el amigo* 01-02-2007 07:17 AM

I voted for Firefox, as it is my main browser. However, special mention to Opera, an excellent and fast browser. I also re-discovered Konqueror recently, since I installed KDE after years on Gnome, and it is not too bad. But Firefox definitly leads...

I don't see how this can be a reason to choose Firefox over all the other options there, given that most of them are cross-platform!

LocoMojo 01-02-2007 10:05 AM

Firefox, extensions galore!

edriv 01-02-2007 11:30 AM

I love Epiphany! It just has all I need, nothing more, nothing less.

i agree i agree i agree.fast and light and the pages seem to look better for some reason. My only issue was getting some plug-ins to work(namely mplayer) however that is taken care of now

random-tux 01-02-2007 12:45 PM

Usually I use Firefox. (A bit more convenient and, maybe, functional than Opera) What I miss there is switching of there those macromediaflash adds (In between, when several pages are loaded with those stupid animations, that consumes all the CPU). Mainly annoying advertisements made with that flash, which spoil the eyes and make the headache, so I have no choice, as to rename those flashlibs in order the browsers could not find them, and the life changes for better. Another possibility I miss there - is viewing easily pictures from the filtered out (for images) sites (sometimes I DO WANT to see a picture - and it is not convenient). Also, "restore new session"-invention in the last version is annoying enough (it is not done correctly). Anyway, thanks for the developers (and sponsors;-)( - and still I use the product ;-)))

betamaxman 01-02-2007 12:48 PM

Firefox as it manages profiles better than the others and in deed you can share profiles between other OSs installed on your system such as windows. Then there is the extension data base.

c4nk 01-02-2007 03:02 PM

firefox all the way

Black Hawk 01-02-2007 03:49 PM

Opera here. I use it both on linux and windows. I know it's inns and outs. I don't like IE at all. The 6.0 version doesn't even have tabs!. Firefox is also a good browser, but I haven't used it much.

Samoth 01-02-2007 03:53 PM

Firefox, konqueror coming in next....

The Cello Fellow 01-02-2007 11:20 PM

Swiftfox!

But seeing as that's a friendly fork of Firefox with some CPU-specific enhancements for speed, I voted Firefox. ;)
