OpenOffice for me 2.0 :-)

koffice has come a long way and is still lightweight, not bloated and easy to use. the upcoming version with native OASIS file format will even rock more.

open office is far too bloated. And OO.o tries so hard to be MSoffice, that it even copies the stupidities in that suite.

OpenOffice.org it's very good and has good compatibility with MS Office

OOo has always been my favorite (Even before I came to GNU/Linux

I am still using OO.org over Koffice, Staroffice, or the gnome equivalents.

Probably would go for StarOffice.
OpenOffice? Man it IS bloated. With my 2600+ Athlon AMD and 768MB Ram, when I compile it (in Gentoo) with all the optimizations and custimizations, it takes a hell lot of time to open and document. Moreover, it could look more compact (but it is not).

KOffice would have been my second choice but it has a long way to go... but I am looking forward to it.

Even though it is a bit heavy it is still OpenOffice,
but I'm waiting to see what AbiSource comes up with
for their full suite.

With version 2, OpenOffice has become a highly polished application that offers seemless interoperability with the M$ office world out there. The 3 to 5 second startup time I experience on my hardware is palatable, considering the alternatives. The draw package is surprisingly useful, and has started to replace dia for my occasional diagramming needs. AbiWord has that lean native feel, but the unexpected crash 'feature' that appears to be maintained religiously between versions really renders it useless.

It would only be fair to put Microsoft Office on that list also to chose from to see how it stands against open source.

I voted for OO but I must admit I prefer MS-Office; however, MS-Office does not run under Linux. I find OO a bit clumsy at times to work with and not as intuitive as other software apps that I have used in the past. Given that, OO is compatible with most of MS-Office features so I don't have to worry about porting between the two apps.

KOffice may make it someday but it has to get MUCH better at opening and modifying MSOffice files (sorry, but the world still uses MSOffice thus creating the little buggers known as .doc and .xls and I still work and live in the world)

I'm still waiting on WordPerfect to make a comeback - being able to see the coding was/is a definite plus.

Open Office has to be the best office app available.

Definately OO. 2.0.1 is fantastic. a little slow to start up on old machines but i run it both on my laptop and desktop machines and have no problem(does help that i just upgraded my desktop to a 2.6ghz AMD with 2gb of RAM). The crossover compadablity with MS is fantastic. I am forced to work with MS at work so i need the crossover ability that Koffice lacks.
