Ardour, MusE, but not Rosegarden?!
Consider this an official request to add Rosegarden to this list, though I also agree with the other commentary to the effect that this lump category really is far from ideal, even bearing in mind how you've grouped, say, Scribus with the GIMP and other such. I understand you're after "which of these does its job best," but you didn't bundle Kuickshow with the GIMP, and for good reason.
I think you need to focus on the creation/consumption divide, though a completely fair treatment of all the individual niches under the gigantic "audio" umbrella would require quite a lot of individual categories. Best sequencer, best recorder, best wave editor, best soft synth, best audio subsystem/infrastructural component... I'm sure other special interest groups in other categories have similar opinions about their own niches, and if you made all of us happy, it would get completely ridiculous. Audio creators/editors/synthesizers vs. Audio players doesn't seem too much of a reach though.
Well, anyway, please do at least add Rosegarden to this current melee, so we can get my one vote.
