I use Firebird SQL for desktop and client server development. For web I am using both FB and MySQL. Both are good. good luck!

I had to go Oracle since it was the only one i have ever used. Perhaps by next year i might have used another, hopefully!

firebird rocks. small, easy to set up, a real relational database, one-file databases, runs on a wide variety of OSes, fast, powerful... need i say more?

since i actually learned MySQL this year!!!! that's what i'm voting for..
great, fast, and easy enough for me.
scalable, and very popular.

mysql, all the php things i want to use are written with mysql

jabrealj 01-02-2005 05:06 PM

Mysql,, yeah right! I like it, a lot; especially because i'm a big fan of the OpenSource community, it's just not come along enough in the Database world to be considered an elite database. Additionally; i've come across to many security issues with mysql to yet consider it able to compete with Oracle, etc. Unfortunately, i gotta stick w/Oracle.

MySQL does everything reasonably well and it is easy to install and use. It makes a great DB for web applications although I prefer to use compiled CGI rather than PHP for speed with MySQL fro speed.

I voted for Firebird for being an enterprise-level database which in my opinion should be the basis for selecting a database. Not mention, the excellent support that Firebird communities providing.

There is only one professional system..

In the oposite of MySQL, Postgresql knows the SQL Standard.
Postgresql supports nested transactions!
Postgresql can a lot more than any layman's db.

It can only be Postgre!! Thats the one!!

Carlos Chavez 01-03-2005 10:28 AM

well, we are using PostgreSQL for 3 year, we have a payroll applications, another applications for invoicing and inventory.
