Commercial Game of the Year

What game have you shelled out your hard earned cash for?

vharishankar 12-30-2004 08:44 PM

Unreal Tournament 2004 :)

jeremy 12-30-2004 08:53 PM

Thanks Harishankar. After 3 nominations I'll set up this category.

vharishankar 12-30-2004 09:19 PM

Doom 3? But it's relatively new port to Linux.

dick_onion53 12-30-2004 10:59 PM

If linux has call of duty I vote for that. I'm not sure if it does but the windoze version is awsome.

ror 12-30-2004 11:03 PM

ut2004

dustin_wielenga 12-30-2004 11:08 PM

Call of Duty
Medal of Honor
Sims 2
Half-Life 2

I don't know if any work on Linux but those are my ideas.

vharishankar 12-30-2004 11:17 PM

dustin_wielenga,

He's asking for commercial native Linux games. Not any games that work with an emulator like WineX

dustin_wielenga 12-30-2004 11:25 PM

I apoligize, I didn't know it could only be Linux.

predator.hawk 12-30-2004 11:48 PM

UT2004, Doom3, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. ET isn't new but its still an awesome game.

darkleaf 12-31-2004 08:34 AM

Neverwinter Nights! Shame the toolset doesn't work but you can play and it's faster than in windows :)

mjjzf 12-31-2004 08:42 AM

D3.

Tuttle 12-31-2004 12:10 PM

Doom3 dvd - when i get it from tuxgames, until then I voted for ut2004!

Phorem 12-31-2004 12:12 PM

I voted for Doom3 but UT2004 has the 64bit port. It was a tough call for me.

Edit- NWN is amazing too. Such a massive community with some nice addons/modules.

OmegaBlac 12-31-2004 01:49 PM

I voted for UT2004. The multiplayer in this game is unmatched. Its fun and with the support from the mod-community there are tons of maps, mutators, conversions to keep the game on my harddrive for a long time(until the next version!). This would explain the awards that its earning right now. Plus the big bonus was Epic had the Linux port available(on disc) when the game shipped! Kudos to them for that!

HappyDude 12-31-2004 03:39 PM

UT2004! That game is uber.

Brane Ded 12-31-2004 09:36 PM

NeverWinter Nights. Get the expansions and enable hardware mouse support, and it's one classy RPG. I'm also swayed by the fact that it runs on my PC. :)

SlackerLX 12-31-2004 10:04 PM

NWN has at least storyline, which is pleasing.
I was tired of UT in 10 minutes. Minimum brain capacity, maximum adrenalin

zaicheke 12-31-2004 10:21 PM

UT2004

student04 01-01-2005 02:39 PM

NWN and UT2K4 are both awesome games.... tough call

Doesn't Half Life 2 have a linux port?

JackieBrown 01-01-2005 03:13 PM

enemmy territory

JLP 01-01-2005 06:54 PM

Doom 3, but I also miss 64-bit binary for AMD64.

blabla 01-01-2005 11:46 PM

where is America's Army (ok, there's no option to blow up the baddies...)???

It's free, it's networked, it's amazing!

fcaraballo 01-02-2005 01:50 AM

D3

MagicMan

macamba 01-02-2005 03:24 AM

HL 2, the best!

hanzerik 01-02-2005 07:41 PM

I voted Americas Army...Guess just because I beta test it and have played it almost every day for the last couple years.

I JUST picked up UT2004 tonight, have not installed it yet so I don't know how it plays.

symen 01-03-2005 01:09 AM

Definitely UT. killing your opponents and your own brain at once

Gustaf 01-03-2005 10:38 AM

enemy-territory by far :D
altho it doesnt cost anything :)

springdog 01-03-2005 03:52 PM

DOOM 3, although I certainly didn't shell out my hard earned cash for it.

hutuworm 01-03-2005 09:03 PM

Doom3, the only one which is commercial can run on my box.

It's true, Half Life 2 is by far the best.
And although I haven't tried it, I was sure it also had a Linux port?
Can someone confirm this and if possible add it to the voters list before time runs out.

Otherwise, I'll have to settle on D3!

q80slipknot 01-05-2005 08:06 AM

Does HL2 have compatibility w/ Linux? If i does, than yea we all noe which game's gonna win ;) If it isnt compatible, its Doom3.

d0g 01-05-2005 10:17 PM

I spent my bandwidth on WolfET - the best game ever made and it's free

kartik_mistry 01-07-2005 05:03 AM

Doom3
HalfLife 2

Prince Myshkin 01-07-2005 08:29 PM

UT2004.
Regardless of which game is the best game (subjective), Epic is definitely supporting native Linux gamers more than any other company right now IMHO.

LoungeLizard 01-09-2005 06:22 PM

UT2004 I just love that game...Doom 3 rocks as well but the multiplayer on UT2004 is unmatched and thats why it gets my vote.

cowboy45 01-11-2005 04:13 PM

UT2k4 all the way :)

Hopefully when they new engine from Bioware comes it, their new toolset will work in linux. Theres only a few reasons I have kept my windows install with such a nice computer:

3ds Max 6(and soon 7)
HL2 SDK
Photoshop
MS Office 2003 Pro
NWN Toolset

After that I use Linux for everything else, since there is a perfect equivelant for everything else. I would dump Windows if only Discreet would release a Linux Port of 3ds Max though...

insyte 01-13-2005 10:58 AM

Neverwinter Nights

Played all the expansions. Simply love it.

rphook 01-18-2005 07:47 PM

OK, here's a real tough one. For those who don't keep up on games, there are two mentioned that run on Linux, and are both free. Enemy Territory, and America's Army. Both of these are multiplayer, and both of these are very modern games. But I would say that Enemy Territory is better, the graphics engine is a little crisper.

rphook 01-18-2005 07:50 PM

How can anyone argue with two games that are totally free, and run on Linux. Both of which are very good multiplayer games. Enemy Territory and America's Army. These far outweigh the others, there is no comparison. You can have enormous LAN parties and not have to worry about distributing copies to your friends, how nice is that.

scotthull 01-20-2005 07:30 PM

UT2004 is one of the best games i've ever played. Add Linux support from the box to this, and we have a winner. The community have to endorse companies that offer Linux support so well as Epic does.

PS: Americas Army and ET are commercial games?

galiza_ceive 01-21-2005 04:57 AM

voted UT2k4

slackaddict 01-22-2005 06:46 PM

UT2004. Doom3 was just too heavy for my hardware :-(

lun4tic 01-29-2005 04:56 PM

UT2004! Just because when I buy the "normal" Windows Box I have the Linux Version included! All other Games I have to download or buy a Linux Only Version. And with 2004 they even have a Tux on The Box :)

I hope they continue the good work and hope they will even support Linux equal to the Windows Version (Manual, System Requirements, Support People that know there exists a Linux Port :D ).

mishu_b 02-01-2005 03:38 AM

doom3

jelle-e 02-01-2005 05:46 AM

Half-Life 2!!

Definitly Half-Life 2! It runs in Linux on Cedega.

Ruach 02-01-2005 06:22 AM

UT2004 hands down...

Sorry, if somebody posted this already, (didn't read through all 500 posts). But there are also mods for UT2004 that just work too. Like Red Orchestra, and Frag Ops. There is also Airbuccaneers, (though I didn't test this one, just heard it worked).

Anyway with these mods who cares about Counterstrike, and IMO Red Orchestra is what the Medal of Honor series (in Multiplayer) should have been.

So my meager vote goes to Unreal Tournament 2004...

odyssey_gi 02-01-2005 07:07 AM

My fav is HL2 with CS:S, but not to many people have that installed under linux! :)

punkrawker82 02-01-2005 11:32 AM

mio_carpe 02-01-2005 10:05 PM
