Absolutely. I just really started getting into it lately, you know... Playing around with everything I see, and I am really amazed at the features they have packed into OO. It seems as if it may be more feature rich than Word. Thats definitely an accomplishment! And of course, you can't beat the price ;)

Yes, there is no real contender to OOwriter at this stage.
Perhaps abiword in one year when it will be more bug free.
Because OOwriter is really resource hungry !

Abi word

I think Abi Word is a big contender to OOwriter, its small fast & in regard to bugs it depends on what version you get. All their final versions have been stable & their development versions have had bugs & that is why they call them development versions. I like Abi & Kword because I think they will be the jewels of their desktops if all the respective desktop users can get behind them, still maybe I'm just a Abi zealot (which I proud of). Cheers Jim

I know this is like screaming 'go USA' in Iraq but I use MS Word, since OO hasn't figured out equation editor and some other functions in word. If I wouldn't have to use MS word at school I wouldn't buy MS office, and I will probably not buy a new one.

Jimmo

I am also an abiword fan but I find there are still too many bugs in the 2.0.x version.
The last time I tried to write a simple CV in abiword, I found one crasher and 4 or 5 major bugs. This is really too much for me.
But sure, abiword is very promising and will be a serious contender in several months.

I use antiword to read those .docs and scite to write whatever needs to be written... in latex if it needs to be fancy. Word processor -pfft.

Open Office.org Writer. Bye, bye Microsoft Word

Abiword works for me as best. Only one thing drive me to problems reading a .doc file, but after that, all is nice. I'm even using it for write de text that goes for my website after all.

Star office/Open office, thanks Sun!

Abi does its job good

CyberMacro 11-22-2003 03:19 PM

My vote goes to OpenOffice, although it takes around 24 hours to compile on my gentoo system :) That's why I used the binary :P

kasperhans 11-23-2003 06:19 AM

abiword as its faster than open office
