Mail Client of the Year

What do you use to get your LQ notifications?

Andrew Benton 11-15-2003 01:49 PM

Thunderbird isn't on the list! I can't vote for any of the others as I don't use them.

Edit - thanks for putting it on the list.

CamelofCamelot 11-15-2003 02:39 PM

Opera! ( and sometimes kmail and evolution)

Pougan 11-15-2003 03:45 PM

Yea, Opera M2 (mainly cause I haven't tried anything else :)).

Scruff 11-15-2003 08:19 PM

Evolution. Great full-featured Linux mail client. Their website shows some exciting things to come too :)

tallship 11-15-2003 09:25 PM

Shame shame shame.....

Pine Is Not Elm!

And it rox!

AMMullan 11-16-2003 12:31 AM

Tried Thunderbird but couldn't get it linked to Firebird so it was a pain trying to get from a link in an email, open Firebird and then paste the link...

Mozilla is good, old fashioned brilliance :) Easy to use and not too slow.

buttersoft 11-16-2003 03:25 AM

kmail is my equivalent for Eudora on windows. It is as easy to use and as easy to backup.

shadow.blue 11-16-2003 04:23 AM

Well, Sylpheed-claws is the best if you want a fast one... a really fast one :)

synaptical 11-16-2003 02:31 PM

thunderbird would get my vote as the best, except as AMmullen said it won't link to firebird, and it also won't open links from within the client, either. so until those two things are fixed, my vote goes to evolution.

>make that AMMullan :o

Andrew Benton 11-16-2003 04:24 PM

This is fixed in current testing builds http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.o...ux-gnu.tar.bz2 and will be fixed in the next landmark build (0.4). I build Thunderbird from CVS and came back to this thread by clicking a link in an Email.

joseph 11-16-2003 07:16 PM

Kmail would be my choice

leonscape 11-16-2003 07:31 PM

Kmail for me, the new Kontact is working fine as well.

Superduck 11-17-2003 04:14 AM

Please consider adding gnus

BigNate 11-17-2003 08:38 AM

Sylpheed far and away is the GUI mail client of the year. Fast, config'able, and dern stable for Beta :)

coriordan 11-17-2003 12:44 PM

Where's Gnus?

Ah, yiz forgot Emacs as an option.

I use Gnus, some people use VM, others use rmail, all are part of GNU Emacs.
(could an emacs option be added? thanks)

joost 11-17-2003 02:22 PM

mew for gnuemacs is certainly the winner

warpengi 11-17-2003 06:55 PM

evolution

It has to be, with a calender and sync with my palm-pilot. Everything you need annd more.

darthtux 11-17-2003 08:22 PM

I'm glad you added Thunderbird. It's fast....

cuerty 11-17-2003 11:42 PM

Mutt, running it from everywhere (Console, X). From outside my home I use squirel

tkrin 11-18-2003 04:41 PM

Sylpheed-claws

fast Fast FAST

goggo 11-19-2003 12:46 AM

didn't like kmail, i use m2 when surfing the net and to get notifications on email. used to using pine for uni through ssh which is always good, but my vote goes for evolution cause its just the main one i use when i got gkrellm notifying me of new mail.

mondaypickle 11-19-2003 10:22 PM

Sylpheed-claws is an effin speed demon. for anyone who switched from win to lin and misses the speed on outlook express then get sylpheed, its FASTER.

fancypiper 11-21-2003 10:21 AM

Command line - mutt

In X, evolution

bemace 11-21-2003 10:58 AM

Evolution is nice since it's integrates so much stuff, but its mail features are pretty limited compared to dedicated email apps.

QuickTime 11-22-2003 06:14 AM

opera

the only thing i use

CyberMacro 11-22-2003 03:33 PM

I really love Sylpheed, it's way faster than the other client, and doesn't contain al the fancy (non needed) functions like evolution does. Hmm... Definately worh my vote!

kasperhans 11-23-2003 06:18 AM

evolution / unstable and has a very own ghost but if its running it rocks

Blindsight 11-23-2003 01:09 PM

29 votes for pine?? You kids and your GUIs, what's this world coming to =)

tree 11-25-2003 11:39 PM

KMail - Eudora-like, easy filter setup for use with SpamAssasin, auto GPG handling

codec 11-30-2003 07:26 PM

Sylpheed is good, I use it on my sister's PC.

I will keep using mozilla or thunderbird in this PC because it use the Netscape 4.X format which would keep compatibility.

techchiq 12-12-2003 03:27 PM

I tried Kmail, Mozilla mail, Opera's mail/news built into their browser, and Sylpheed. Evolution outperforms all of them in terms of features and ease of use. I also enjoy seeing my weather on the log in screen. :)

I remember PINE from around the time the internet opened to the public, and it was my very favorite news/mail reader back then, and even text editor! :) I also used Lynx back then as well. My how times have changed! PINE is still great too. But I use KDE and enjoy the GUI stuff these days.

Right on! Except my vote went with mutt :)

Kocil 12-18-2003 10:20 AM

For me, evolution would be the best ...
if I could spare 300++ MB harddisk space just to install GNOME LIBS !!

So yeah ... I better stick with pine on the server,
remotelly accessed from anywhere using ssh (Linux) or PuTTY (Windows).

The only "VIRUS proof" method to read e-mail from Windows :)

J.W. 12-19-2003 01:35 AM

Dude, evo rocks -- J.W.

tokkee 12-28-2003 08:52 AM

there's nothin better than mutt (gpg/pgp support is just awesome)

@@@ 01-01-2004 12:56 PM

Emacs / Gnus is still missing on the list. Certainly the most powerful news / mail client around...

sxa 01-02-2004 12:54 AM

My vote to Evolution... which seems to be winning as it is..

THEHERO 01-03-2004 01:31 AM

Evolution is ok but i think thunderbird is awesome and has a lot of potential.

sxa 01-04-2004 02:18 AM

If thunderbird the mail client is anything like the ford thunderbird.. yukk

agiacalone 01-06-2004 04:55 PM

Pine, all the way!

To heck with all these GUI'ed mail clients. :-)

sxa 01-06-2004 05:20 PM

I can't stand Text based email clients...

Noerr 01-08-2004 08:51 AM

opera, but still needs some refinements

sxa 01-08-2004 11:32 AM

If you are paying for it.. you should not be paying for something that nees fefinements..
