Commercial Game of the Year

What game have you shelled out your hard earned cash for?

randomblast 11-15-2003 03:42 PM

enemy territory and americas army are not commercial games, they are free, just not open source.
if that doesn't matter anyway and they belong in here can we have Legends: The Coming Of A New Age in here please

EDIT: damn missed it by 18 minutes.
shouldn't have been playing games :(

LordMorgul 11-16-2003 02:29 AM

I think the poll is fair enough despite the free games, provided you upgraded your computer to handle them!

randomblast 11-16-2003 02:28 PM

thx jeremy/moderator

i tried americas army, ut2003 demo, and enemy territory, i get about 12fps on all of them with a gf2 mx400 pci, duron 950, 256mb pc100.
torque engine is about 50fps and its smooth

I don't think any shooter out there today can even compete with America's army. Definetly one of the bestr tactical games ever created.

I think most can easily compete i dislike AA because it isn't fun to play like ET it is more a simulation than a game.

How about Savage?

megalex 11-17-2003 08:17 AM

SAVAAAGE !!!

MISSING !!!

I don't play many games, but are these all FPS games? I got bored of these type of games after Doom 2.

viniosity 11-17-2003 05:38 PM

Neverwinter Nights is not a FPS which is why I voted for it. I just don't have the reflexes I used to... would love to see some more RPG's come to GNU/Linux

nrunge 11-17-2003 07:47 PM

Savage

You forgot Savage: Battle for NewEarth

cuerty 11-17-2003 11:47 PM

I'm with Unreal. As non-us I can't say that AA was as good as I expect.

What about

Star Wars -- Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy?

I played nearly every Star Wars PC game since X-Wing (missed only the unbearable Phantom Menace (no fun at all) and Jedi Outcast ( too busy to play it through), so this was my first and only game this year, and it was fun ;-)

And it runs perfectly under linux using winex.

So I couldn't vote on this one...

Legends is in an interesting position in these awards. While it is not open source (and therefor technically commercial) it also does not cost money. Legends is a community project steming from the Tribes inspired "freedom of movement" genre emphasizing truly 3D gameplay.

http://hosted.tribalwar.com/legends <- check us out if you haven't already. We also can be found in #v12 on irc.dynamix.com. Thank you for including our project in your awards, it is highly flattering.
