Yes. That is an excellent forum (daemonforums.org/). I've just gone back to running FreeBSD again. I blew out my OpenBSD install. I'm really liking FreeBSD 9.0.
I am learning to ignore it when my posts are edited on the FreeBSD forums.

For me it's an ethical thing, that kind of intrusive editing is unacceptable.

I agree. I also find it very intrusive and it is a violation of my rights, but, it is difficult to challenge a forum administrator(he has been promoted). I may post my displeasure in the feedback section of the site (probably not).

Yes, there is always this thing bothering me when I scan the *bsd forums - they are very touchy feely. Some posts posted here (along with the usual ***s) would make the mod go mad. I do not know why this has to be so. If someone has a good reason for a rant then so be it. Let him speak his mind. (Probabally this is one reason why I always post in this forum).

The good thing about the net is that you can always go somewhere else to meet your particular needs

I don't agree with the whole statement that one OS is better than another. Each OS has it's strengths and weaknesses that people decide upon to make that OS their main OS of choice. BSD and Linux as well as Mac and Windows all share commonalities and differences that make people use them as their OS of choice. In the end the user is the one who really decides what's best for him/her and those factors are many.

Well, again not to provoke anybody's sentiments, but I was lurking through a forum where I visit regularly to see updates and I found this discussion :

The way this maintainer of OpenBSD replied to a normal question of the poster was hilarious and moronic at the same time. Apparently the poster was simply asking a question. I guess the lead always presents himself like a teen with troubled childhood. I understand he's an all time loud-mouth but calling their users assh*le is bit too much.

/As kids we were taught in Sanskrit "Vidhya Dadaati Vinayam" i.e. knowledge leads to humbleness. Guess it's not relevant anymore.*/

Regards.

Haha, thanks for sharing. Yes. Theo does not suffer fools lightly and says exactly what is on his mind. Quite harsh and hilarious at the same time.

I think the funny part is that neither of them can write a hibernate routine like Windows'. One of them wonders whether it could be implemented in BSD and the other has self-esteem issues and is so insecure about their ability to do it they have to broadcast the fact.
Don't get me wrong, I have a great deal of respect for OS developers, but that is tragic.

You gotta love Theo, he certainly is a character

But one wonders where OpenBSD will be if he disappeared off the face of the Earth tomorrow...

I guess not all are pleased with OpenBSD/Theo as OpenBSD was recently forked as Bitrig - still very early days for this project and who knows if it will take off (or not).

And jumping on peoples back who aren't present to defend themselves was considered
a decent act in your sanskrit classes? Awesome.

Can we please get this thread back on topic, and keep the foul-mouthing to the
next pub crawl? Thanks.

Cheers,
Tink

I think your intentions to suggest something here to me are genuine, but I don't get a strong reason to nitpick me over foul mouthing. That was just an opinion like everybody else. My bad if it looked nasty.

However, your point is noted. No arguments over it further, and you're a fine mod nonetheless I know. Peace.

Regards.

I made my first post on the freebsd forum a year ago. That
duchdaemon edited my post just because it had hard wrapped
lines! I answered him that I use vi to edit all (with
vimperator firefox plugin) and that was my last post there :-).
At mailing lists you will have a better experience (avoid
answering some snobbish idiots there, you will recognize them
just reading a few mails).

That's quite sad really, just hope some of the FreeBSD hierachy see these posts - come on guys, you should be encouraging new users to the forums and BSD itself and not driving them away!

Eloi, if you haven't tried DaemonForums then take a look as your posts might just stay unmoderated
