no linux.ko? (FreeBSD 5.3 Release, amd64)

i can't seem to get Linux compatibility working. after some investiaging, it turns out that the linux.ko wasn't installed when i installed FreeBSD.

i've tried installing from /usr/src/sys/modules/linux, but that didn't work ("make install" only returned "install: linux.ko: No such file or directory *** Error code 71"). i even tried installing from the linux_base port in hopes that would just automagically install it. that didn't work either.

does anyone know what the problem might be? or better yet, how can i get linux compatibility installed?
