installing packages

i have FreeBSD and i installed it and it came with like six more cd's that have stuff on them that i really want but i dont know how to install them how do you install the different packages on them?
(as you can see i suck with unix/linux operating systems)

Are the packages in .tgz format?
If so try the following:

open a terminal and go su.
mount the cdrom.
cd to the directory that contains the package that you want.
type:

pkg_add whateverpackage.tgz

I've only tinkered a little with Freebsd so this is a bit of a guess.

With that said, go here and read, read, read.

Read the section of the handbook that covers sysinstall. You can use the sysinstall front end to add more packages, or you can use the pkg_add command (read the man page for instructions--or the handbook).
