install from linux partition??


Hello people,

I downloaded BSD iso's (before I read you can install over ftp!)
anyway it says you can install from a DOS partition but can you from
a linux partition?

anyone know?

(Save me from burning CDs)

of course U can

just press alt+f2 and mount the images or do what U need, then select Ur source media

1) It would be alt-f4
2) Once you select local partition (or whatever) you need to drop to a shell, mount the linux parition, create a md with the iso, mount that somewhere...
3) and then continue the installation telling the install program where you mounted the disk image.

It is possible... but you're looking at a fairly advanced installation... especially if you have never worked with FreeBSD before.

thanks guys.
I got my CD burner working anyway
so it wasn't needed and I loaded it
on another machine anyway.
(well, loading now)

I like the way it has disc slices like solaris.
much neater.


thanks though.

P.S.
Does anyone know what the 5.3
boot-only iso is for?
Is it just a rescue disk?
(can't seem to find info on it)
