FreeNAS issue with Firewire800-to-IDE bridge boards

I'm running FreeNAS 0.69b4 and I'm having trouble connecting my dual FW800 controlled 8 drive enclosure. It keeps erroring out with things like "sbp0:0:0 request timeout(cmd orb:0x0f7a6634) -- reset start", so at least the right subsystem is being used, it just seems that these boards are not responding to the computer's requests, or the computer is making requests the boards don't understand, either way, it ends up generally freezing the system and leaving my NAS inoperable till I turn off the 8 drive enclosure and hard boot the NAS computer. Any ideas what I might be able to do to whip this thing into shape? I kinda want access to this 2.8tb of space sitting in this enclosure.
