Im about to install FreeBSD 6.1 and I all I have left is a extended partition. Is if possible to install FreeBSD in a logical partition?

As far as I know, you can only install FreeBSD on a primary partition, so a logical partition is no good.

Ok. I just try installing FreeBSD 6.1 i386 but it gives me a BTX halted error. I think this has to do with the fact that my laptop uses an amd turion 64 x2 cpu Im correct or wrong?? What should I do download the 6.2 i386 or 6.2 amd64 which one will work better??

Recently I learnt a bitter lesson on installing FreeBDS-6.2-amd64. If you are prepared running FreeBSD and Linux on the same box, on the 1st screen you have to partition the HD into 2 partitions, FreeBSD fs and ext2 fs respectively. On the 2nd screen you have to use the entire FreeBSD partition for cutting slices. Don't touch the Linux partition on FreeBSD. If you are going using the complete HD for FreeBSD only, on the 1st screen you have to use the entire HD as a single partition. Otherwise you can't find the HD on the 2nd screen.

Try booting with ACPI off: when the screen goes black and you see a _ in the corner press some keys until you hear a sys beep. This will let you have the FreeBSD loader then select the disable ACPI option. That took me months to figure out.
