clock shows wrong time for the time zone

I was recently given a Dell Inspiron mini-tower, and decided to install TrueOS (this is the first time I have tried BSD).
I haven't had the opportunity to do much more than basic web-browsing, but at least no important problems have leapt out at me.

However I was surprised to notice that the time on the clock is incorrect. Although set to Eastern Standard Time, it was showing 2am rather than 9pm. I changed to another time zone and back again, but it always seemed to maintain the same error.

I finally adopted the time zone for American Samoa, which gave me the correct time.

I am curious whether this is a bug that others have reported, or whether there is an easy repair. Note that before installing BSD I had installed Linux Mint and the time was correct.
Thanks.

There is software to correct the time settings and timezone. I would first see if I could manually set the hardware clock to the correct CUT time, which would make your TIMEZONE setting work as it should.
Then, no matter how that comes out, I would implement NTP in client mode to keep the clock correct.

Quite correct: once I was reminded to look at the BIOS it was straightforward.
Thanks.
