alsa-utils for freebsd?

Hello,

Just got my sound card working thanks to the freebsd handbook. I tried just now to pkg_add alsa-utils but it reports that it cannot be found. I'm new to freebsd. I am I overlooking something?

Many Thanks,

ab

FreeBSD does not use ALSA. It uses OSS (Open Sound System). ALSA means Advanced Linux Sound Architecture so its a Linux thing at the moment.

Thanks,

If I would have thought about it longer, it would have made sense. What I'm looking for is something comparable to the command line alsa-conf, where I can adjust the audio channel volumes via command line. Anything like that for OSS?

Cheers,

ab

See the manpages for mixer(8). That what you're looking for?

(A quick google didn't turn up hits for 'man alsa-conf'. But it did find some 'man alsaconf' pages. That appears to be a sound card detection script...)
