yet another disk geometry question
 

dear all,

i've decided that i'm tired of changing linux distro for this and that reason, and strongly believe in the standardization that freebsd seems to be able to bring (as long as many other things).

therefore, here i am with my amd-64 6.0 current freshly downloaded version and start to boot.

i get a 'typical' (well i've read a lot about it though i did not understand what i should do...):


WARNING: A geometry of 65535/16/63 for ad6 is incorrect. Using a more likely geometry. If this geometry is incorrect or you are unsure as to whether or not it's correct, please consult the Hardware Guide in the Documentation submenu or use the (G)eometry command to change it now.

Remember: you need to enter whatever your BIOS thinks the geometry is! For IDE, it's what you were told in the BIOS setup. For SCSI, it's the translation mode your controller is using. Do NOT use a ``physical geometry''.


i'm using two maxtor 6y120m0 disks:

on disk ad4 i have two partitions with windows in it;

on disk ad6 i have two partitions and some unused space (around 16 GB) which i want to use for freebsd.

the question is: what should i do about this warning. i'm a total newbie in this and am really not sure if i should proceed.

i rather not boil the two partitions of ad6... any clues more than welcomed.

I get that error whenever I install FreeBSD, but I just ignore it and the installation always goes smoothly and everything works fine.

I had this problem when I was installing BSD 6.0 on my Gatedefender. I searched for the HD specs and input the correct geometry and it went through. :)
