Folks, I resent the fact that I asked a perfectly logical question on a BSD subforum wanting to know general answers to a general question, no different that I would have asked someone over the cubical wall. That is, back when I used to have a cubical wall... that is before the days of the Anti-christ.... but thats a different matter.
True, I could have done a search but i think it's good to ask a basic question and get basic, what you would call, word on the street answers, and thats just what was happening. Things like that the BSD kernal is mono-lythic. Now I can understand what he means by that....
As for starting a flame, well damn it, had i asked the question in the Let's shit on somebody forum, you might have a valid point... oh well, old war wounds i guess.
So i don't suppose there's any point in asking what's the big diff between Linux & QNX....
Well, first the Linux kernel is also monolythic... they both are. For non-examples you are going to need to look at Minix or the HURD kernel.
The monolythic comment was in relation to the userland. BSDs are not just a kernel, they are all the system utilities. There is a BSD ls,cp,mv etc... all part of the base system... all tightly integrated so changing one doesn't break others.
Seriously though, this question is asked 6000 times a minute and is pointless. Go out and read (there are maybe 2-3 good articles that will appear on the first page of google) instead of making us recreate the wheel.
Edit, I hate to post this link AGAIN here... it has hit the forum several time... but check this out.
You've been around long enough to understand how things work here. Do not start another thread to complain or basically link back to your original thread, its considered double posting and simply rude. The BSD forum unfortunately gets a lower amount of traffic, be patient or bump it with new questions or info after 24 hours, but do not create threads like this again or you will find yourself without any privileges to this site.
Members here answer questions in their own free spare time, they are never obligated to answer any question. And you even admitted you could have searched, which you seem smart enough that you should have but then came back with questions but instead you showed your lazy side, no pun intended, but you did.
Just a reminder, you've already racked up warning points in the past, anymore you can and will lose rights to these forums, pleading your case to Jeremy to be reinstated, if you choose to do so, etc.
Lets make this your final warning please. If you want to discuss this further, email either myself, another mod or Jeremy. This thread has been reported and will be closed.

Are you stupid or are you just trolling really hard? Well it is nice to see he is insane enough to think he can "bring up charges." Can i be next for those charges? Pretty please? Perhaps i need to post something a tad more slanderous? Let me know how to get charged and i will comply as soon as possible!
I never like to leave a question unanswered. The big differences... these days, not all that much. Different libs (for the most part), once you get to gtk+, qt, tk, etc.. they're all the same, and a lot of BSD's utilities require glibc, etc... but yet they have an entirely different assortment of bin-utils, net-utils, etc... so ifconfig and route and ls and du work entirely differently, but X is pretty much the same... Different kernels of course, and supported architectures, but then again between the BSDs there are different supported architectures. FreeBSD and NetBSD now have SMP support which was the only way they really needed to play catchup as opposed to Linux. I've seen FreeBSD boxen take loads that would cripple Linux machines of the same caliber, or really... of the same level of default install. Both are more robust with tweaking, and depending on distro its just as easy to crank a linux box to extremes as it is a BSD machine.
The cultures are certainly different, which I'm afraid to say is really probably why Linux has succeeded. RTFM is a given with FreeBSD, and a lot more with OpenBSD... and of course the licenses and the usual debates that come from that.
With that question answered, I understand that you just wanted general information, but that first post was flamebait, and this one really was, so I think you need to take it up with Jeremy.
