VLC freezes while playing video

Hi all,

I have a problem with FreeBSD, as per the thread title "VLC freezes while playing video".

The videos are played from an external usb hard drive, the hard drive is formatted to ext3 (shared with linux but opens ok in FBSD), the videos are almost invariably .MP4.

Does not do it all the time, just the majority of the time.

I am not that used to FBSD, there is probably a setting I am missing, maybe its cache for ext3 or for videos in general.

Anyway all the best and thanks in advance for any pointers.

I'd check to see if you can increase the cache size in VLC.

will it freeze too if you play the same video from a local/internal drive?

Short answer from testing one video on HD - NO!

I increased the cache in VLC and played a vid from the USB drive - froze again.

Strange as smplayer does not do this, but with smplayer I can not increase the volume beyond 100%, which is why I like to use VLC.

The only solution for now is to copy vid to HD when using VLC.

Wouldnt say its solved though!
