Unable to resolve new symbolic link added to /bin directory without reboot

This is on FreeBSD 6.2 with "Minimal Install" selected.

I added a symbolic link to the /bin directory like so:

ln -s /usr/local/bin/python2.5 /bin/python

When I type ls -l /bin/python I see:

/bin/python --> /usr/local/bin/python2.5

When I type python I get "command not found" but if I type /bin/python it works fine?

Typing echo $PATH shows /bin is there. The only way to fix this was to reboot the system. Is there a way around rebooting?

shell is csh.

The rehash commad did the trick.
