Lightbulb Tutorial: FreeBSD with Intel Pro/Wireless 2200

USING A PRO/WIRELESS 2200 Intel CARD ON FREEBSD:

Installing Firmware

Code:
su
cd /usr/ports/net/iwi-firmware/
make install clean
or

Code:
su
pkg_add -r iwi-firmware-2.3_1

Configuration

Code:
kldload if_iwi
iwicontrol iwi0 -d /boot/firmware -m bss
ifconfig iwi0 up

Installing GUI for Finding/Connecting to Networks

Code:
su
cd /usr/ports/sysutils/desktopbsd-tools
make install clean

dbsd-nettray
an applet should pop up in the system tray and allow you to scan and connect to wireless networks

Notes

Tested on:
HP dv1000 Notebook PC
Intel Pro/Wireless 2200 internal Card
PC-BSD 1.0

Should work with 2100 cards-
just replace all "iwi" with "ipw" (untested- if someone has a 2100 card could they test, and post the results?)

If this doesent work, try the following pages
http://damien.bergamini.free.fr/ipw/index.html
http://www.freebsdmall.com/~loader/e...s/article.html
http://www.bsdforums.org (nothing against LQ- but its just another place to look)
http://www.freebsd.org/docs.html

For more programs included in the DesktopBSD-Tools package
http://desktopbsd.net/wiki/doku.php?...ols_in_freebsd

Please Post back your results- if it does not work I will try to make adjustments.

Good Luck! -Jack

Hi Pengu,

thank you very, very much for this Tutorial!

I'm new to BSD and was close to giving up all hope to make my Wireless Chipset run. But then I found this Tutorial and it really saved my day =)

Keep up the good work

Yours,

S.M.
