Terrible sound quality with FreeBSD 5.2.1

I have just installed FreeBSD 5.2.1 on my main PC and installed xmms from ports.

I have loaded the appropriate driver for my sound card (emu10k1) using /boot/loader.conf.

When I try to play music or sounds, there is constant clicking and the sound is distorted.

Also when trying to pause music, it continues playing for 1 second, then cuts out, this is followed by a loud click.

This audio quality is totally unacceptable and I have had to go back to Slackware in order to listen to my music properly.

Has anyone else had such problems?

(PS: My sound card is a Creative Labs Soundblaster Live! 1024. I am using the analogue output. I do not experience these problems in Linux or Solaris when I had them installed on this computer.)

Change drivers under the xmms config and set the volume to 3/4.
