That table is created automaticly, but I see that in this case it havent been.. maybe you should start it with an host flag to see if it creates the damn table.

I'm not sure of this tough.. it should had created the table.
It might be associated with a big system misconfiguration that haven't permited the daemon to get the proper host information.

But still it could be a bad instalation... have you installed it via ports?

Have you tried to run mysql_install_db yet? U should.

Hey there, it seems I've got a quite similar problem, but your solution doesn't work for me... Mostly because I can't implement it.
Could you please describe what exactly you did? Did you reinstall the mysql server with root privileges? What does "start it with an host flag" mean?

I don't have root privileges and apparently mysql needs to create some directories and files where I don't have access to. Is there a possibility of installing mysql in such a manner that every accessed file is within a chosen location?

This thread had been closed for SIXTEEN YEARS before you reopened it. I doubt the OP is going to respond; please open your own thread with your own question, and provide details. Solutions from sixteen years ago probably aren't going to work today, and we'll need to know which Linux, MySQL, etc. before anyone can even begin to help you.

That said, if you don't have root privileges, you **WILL NOT** be able to perform most of what you're going to have to do. Follow up in your OTHER thread for this same question, and read the LQ Rules about double-posting, necroposting, and hijacking others threads with your own questions.
