startx errors

Hi, I'm new to FreeBSD. I just installed it and configured XFree86. But when i type startx I get these errors:

X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).
kernel: pid 476 (XFree86), uid 0: exited on signal 6 (core dumped)

xauth: creating new authority file /root/.Xauthority
xauth: argv):1: bad display name "0" in "list" command
xauth: creating new authority file /root/.Xauthority
xauth: argv):1: bad display name "0" in "add" command
xauth: creating new authority file /root/.Xauthority
xauth: argv):1: bad display name "0" in "remove" command

Fatal server error
Caught signal 11. Server aborting

What's my next step for troubleshooting? Thanks.

it's 5.0. I've tried installing it twice with the same result. The install seemingly goes well but after I configure xfree86 I get this error message.

Well it is most likely a hardware problem or a broken iso of freebsd. I suggest you try version 5.2.1 or version 4.10 and see if you have the same problems.

no need to upgrade to 5.2.1 unless you want to
check /etc/hosts to see if it matches your internet configuration
don't use root accound for X, don't use it..............................
