Spamassassin, Exim, delay problems

I am a newbie to the FreeBSD world, but I am working on a server that is using Exim 4.50 and SpamAssassin 3.0, on a FreeBSD 5.3. This server in turn after filtering spam relays to a second server that is running FreeBSD 4.9 where the mail sits and waits for users. For some reason there is a delay from the first server to the second, sometimes hours worth.
I checked the mail log and the mail shows up on the first server, and it wasn't rejected, but doesn't show up on the other server. Where should I start, any help would be appreciated. Also let me know if you need more information.

Thanks
