Why not give it a try and post with a specific question when something doesn't work the way the howto says? Then you'll learn for yourself what's different between the two.
Thanks for the suggestions. After using FBSD for a month and not being able to print to my WinXP shared printer, and realizing that I have WAY TOO MANY packages installed, I've decided to start over and reinstall FBSD and go through the Handbook to get everything set up properly.
When I get up to configuring Sendmail, I'll post my results.

After numerous searches on how to relay through my ISP's smtp server via Sendmail I've come to the conclusion that if you don't already know how to do it, it can't be done. I followed this how-to http://home.leo.org/~barner/freebsd/...p/article.html and I still can't authenticate on the ISP's smtp server. I don't know what I've left out or configured incorrectly. I don't realy need a mail server, I can send mail via other clients, so I guess I won't worry about it.

I've come to the same conclusion. Many, many hours wasted on trying to do outbound SMTP-AUTH (and I'm no newbie to Sendmail either). I'm a static IP with no filters, but my ISP had me in the middle of a dynamic block that was on some blacklists. I'm very grateful that they've since moved me to where I belong so the need for SMTP-AUTH went away
Thanks Brian. Like I said, I don't really need a mail server, I can send mail just fine through normal channels. If I do get Sendmail working under FreeBSD they way I have it under Slackware, I want to relay through my ISP to avoid being blacklisted.
I recently found some other articles on setting up auth-info that may help. I'll keep trying.
