pkg_add env variables null after reboot

I followed the gab tutorial and was quite pleased with how things turned up, xfce installed and runs great but after every reboot my environment PATH variables are null again.

I followed the instructions in the above LQ thread and it made no difference.

These lines are in my home/user/.profile and my root/.profile and after the first installs they appeared permanently set but now they are not.

PKG_PATH=$(uname -r)/packages/$(uname -m)/
ALT_PKG_PATH=$(uname -r)/packages/$(uname -m)/

The echo $PKG_PATH is null and when I run pkg_add it says 'cant find package'

What is going on here?

openbsd 6 in virtualbox in ubuntu.

You're following some third party blog/tutorial for an old and unsupported release of OpenBSD.

Instead read the correct documentation:

And refer to installurl(5)
