PCBSD 8.0 Upgrade

BSDer's

Have PCBSD installed.

When I click 'update' the link is out of date.

How do I fix this?

Thanks!

That is a very old version of PC-BSD. They have changed the name and it is now called, TrueOS. You might want to install a more recent version, if not the latest version.

Further to cwizardone's excellent suggestion you may also consider trying the real deal, FreeBSD. PC-BSD and TrueOS are based on FreeBSD. PC-BSD is an excellent OS. The FreeBSD handbook is outstanding and will walk you through installation and set-up.

BSD's tend to only support the previous versions, you need to do a new install & keep up to date.

I have no experience with PC-BSD but release 8.0 is based on FreeBSD 8.0 (2010). So don't bother...

It seems that 10.3 was the last release called PC-BSD and based on a stable FreeBSD release.

And TrueOS is not only a name change, but also a move to a "rolling release" model based on -current

https://www.trueos.org/blog/pc-bsd-evolves-into-trueos/

You might give FreeBSD a try, but expect a learning curve regardless.

Further to cynwulf's helpful link you may wish to give FreeBSD a try in a virtual machine to try it out. As cynwulf mentioned there is a learning curve associated with installing FreeBSD and getting a desktop running. A thorough read through of the Handbook is needed.
