packet handling at the kernel level

Dear friends

i want to know how packets are handled by the kernel. how it catches packets and it forwards them. all inner details.

just i want to simulate the same thing in my project.

anyone plz help me.

i'm using redhat linux 9 (shrike)
kernel version 2.4.0-18

That will get you started, but FYI RedHat is LINUX this is BSD UNIX Forum try one of the linux forums and others may be able to help you better as BSD kernel's and linux kernel's are not the same thing.
