OpenBSD & Linux software compability (apache, mysql, php, ...)
I'm researching information on compability of Apache v2, MySQL v4, PHP v4, vsftpd on a server based on OpenBSD 3.2. Anybody has experience on that or can me point to a few helpful documents ?
MySQL and PHP are both part of the OpenBSD ports tree, they're right there. I know of those for certain, I've installed them, I'm not certain about Apache 2.0.x, but I would be amazed if it isn't there. Just look through the sheer volume of available source and pre-compiled packages available for OpenBSD, you'll be hard pressed to find something they don't already have. Just poke through a local mirror.
Apache is part of the actual default installation main packages... hmm, I'm pretty certain it would compile cleanly from source, I'll find out! MySQL I mispoke, 3.23.54 is what I've got installed, too many toys...
Sometimes yes, sometimes no, you gotta remember these aren't Linux programs as much as Unix programs... OpenSSH for instance is made by and for OpenBSD and just has a Linux port. The entirety of CVS was developed by the BSD crowd, its usually just the smaller projects that don't cross compile right, also quite a few need GCC, which you can just as easily install on OpenBSD.
I couldn't get apache 2.0.44 to compile with a straight ./configure, but it ran the configure and built a proper Makefile. I'm certain I could get it sorted soon enough, but I was just doing it for kicks. I'm almost dead certain the reason it horked was not that it was OpenBSD, but really that the machine is an UltraSparc. That makes for a rare architecture+OS combo.
