mysql replication

Hello and many thanks in advance for any help.

Learning how to set up 2 mysql servers in master/slave relationship which from all the documentation seems really easy, but for the life of me I can not get a simple binary log to appear and every time I do a show master status the query always returns empty.

relevant area of my.cnf

Code:
[mysqld]
port            = 3306
socket          = /tmp/mysql.sock
skip-locking
key_buffer = 16M
max_allowed_packet = 1M
table_cache = 64
sort_buffer_size = 512K
net_buffer_length = 8K
read_buffer_size = 256K
read_rnd_buffer_size = 512K
myisam_sort_buffer_size = 8M
log-bin=/var/db/mysql/mysql-bin
binlog-do-db=test
server-id = 1
This machine is a 6.2 box with mysql51 installed from ports.

Many thanks for any help.

Hello again,

Just wanted to post what I had done to cause my issue. My my.cnf wasn't under /var/db/mysql/ which is where the startup script is looking for it. Once I put things in order and, I changed the above log-bin option to just plain log-bin=mysql-bin, fixed a few errors all seems good. Hope this helps someone sometime.
