making openbsd 3.7 ISO
I am making OpenBSD 3.7 ISO for i386 architecture. I need X (KDE or xfce), shell and all the packages for a STABLE release.
[1] Do I need to download everything from ftp://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/3.7/i386? ** I am using a local mirror, BTW [2] Do I need to download the files in ftp://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/3.7/ as well? By files I mean the common files only and not the architecture specific directories. [3] After downloading do I burn the files as image in a CD? Any other suggestions? TIA. |

openbsd provides an iso image that can be burned to a CD on all of their mirrors. It is in the ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/3.7/i386 directory. The file is called cd37.iso. You can download this file and create a boot disk. After that, I would suggest using pkg_add or ports to install KDE. The iso CD contains all the nessecary tars to install openbsd. I would suggest however to build openbsd from source if you have the space. If you dont't have the space, you can just install the files and the kernel. I have an OpenBSD firewall that has an 850 MB harddrive if that gives you a picture of how little space you actually need.

I have downloaded cd37.iso along with everything else in ftp://mirror.pacific.net.au/OpenBSD/3.7/i386/ and burned them in a CD. But the CD doesn't seem to be bootable (yes, I have the boot sequence right).
I dumped all the files in 3.7 directory in the CD using Windows XP built-in burner. Doesn't seem to work. |
Problem solved!
