Installing freeBSD on Sun Ultra 1

Hi All

i am installing FreeBSD Sparc Edition on a Sun Ultra 1 System.

I reboot using Boot cdrom..

it does some Loader stuff of the cd the says

Hit Enter to reboot immediatly or press any other key for command prompt.

I press enter

booting [/boot/kernal/kernal]
nothing to autoload yet
jumping to Kernal entry 0xc0040000

Then the system just sits there and does nothing! Anyone got any ideas on what I should do?

Download the NetBSD sparc install.

Seriously. I like FreeBSD as much as the next guy, but they're really not doing anyone any favors by trying to keep a sparc and alpha port. NetBSD is the "shiznit" for multi-architecture people. The folks in that camp have gone to great lengths to ensure that it works exactly the same regardless of what architecture you're on.

Give it a shot. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Edit: As a side benefit, Net 2.0 is significantly faster than FreeBSD in a lot of areas now.
