Installing a sound card in FreeBSD 5.4

I am trying to install a sound card on my FreeBSD 5.4 box, I have grown tired of the console beep.

I went step by step from the hand book:
kldload snd_emu10k1

dmesg | grep -i emu10k1
pcm0: <Creative EMU10K1> port 0xdfe0-0xdfff irq 16 at device 4.0 on pci1

cat /dev/sndstat
FreeBSD Audio Driver (newpcm)
Installed devices:
pcm0: <Creative EMU10K1> at io 0xdfe0 irq 16 kld snd_emu10k1 (4p/3r/0v channels duplex default)
pcm1: <Intel ICH4 (82801DB)> at io 0xee00, 0xedc0 irq 17 bufsz 16384 kld snd_ich (1p/1r/0v channels duplex)

I still have no sound.

Are you sure that you are loading the correct module for your hardware? That will load the module for just that hardware. kldload snd_emu10k1
Code:
# kldload snd_driver
will load all modules so you can see if your card works. # means as root.
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO...und-setup.html
You can then load modules one by one to see which one works, or if you know your hardware you can load the correct one. Or you can load all of them at start up.
After you find the correct one put a reference to it in /boot/loader.conf
Code:
sound_driver load="YES"
will load all modules on start up.
Take your time read the handbook. BSD has great Docs. Also performs great.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but domember what you did to fix it?

I have a Soundblaster Live, and have it configured to load via /boot/loader.conf
