Installed Darwinx86 to HDD1, now how do i boot to it?


ok guys, on my test rig i decided to mess with darwin. HDA1 is win98. hdb1 is CDROM, HDC1 is SuSE linux, and HDD i installed darwin to.

HOw do i boot to it? that simple. IM using Grub, so if i must edit that i will.

You are going to need to edit grub. I don't use grub myself but you should be able to just tell it where Darwin is (and some other basic info) and it will boot. That is what man pages and online documentation are for.

well ive read darwin NEEDS to be on primary master. Also, that lilo can possibly boot it but grub cant, but forwhatever reason i cant get it to run. It gets to the apple screen, and just hangs.

So it is starting to boot but then stops? Or does it not recognize it at all?

Chances are, if the kernel is loading, it isn't a problem with grub or the disk you have it on. It might be a conflict in the kernel with the hardware you have.

it loads to a GUI, but i cant even use the mouse. it like gets all with the logo and just stops.

Okay, that is a slightly different problem.

Can you get it to boot in single user mode? It might be that X has misconfigured your video card and it causes the system to freeze. If you can boot to a command prompt you can configure X that way -- or configure the system to not boot X.
