How do I install gnome on NetBSD 5 after a fresh install.
I just downloaded the latest version of NetBSD (5.1). I tried installing gnome a couple of times but I started getting allot of errors and gave up. So does anybody know a good way on how to install Gnome on NetBSD?
Right now, I Don't have any Desktop Environment installed, so when I type in "startx" nothing happens. |
It's been 3 days & you're out of auto-bumps, I might as well jump in. :)
Disclaimer: I ssh into the occasional FreeBSD box, but I have never installed any of them; what I am offering is general troubleshooting:
Feel free to number your answers w/o having to repeat my questions. HTH. |
Is this the planned VM installation you mentioned in another recent thread? -- That might be crucial info [edit] for your potential helpers [/edit].

I'd add to the above queries:
Be sure to read through the NetBSD Guide if you haven't already. Topics like X and package installation are covered in detail there. |
Ok, I Have doing more research and I found out that NetBSD doesn't connect automatically to the internet, and It has to be connected manually, How do I do that. Also do I have to have to do something to get pkgsrc working, Do I have to put in any commands to get it working, and yes this is my planned VM from the other thread.
Also I Have been checking out that guide and I Found a how to install gnome right here http://www.netbsd.org/docs/pkgsrc/gnome.html |
