I'm new to BSD, how can I fix this?

Did you by any chance try to manually patch BIND?

I did not try to patch it manually? Is that something I should do?

I tried thinking that might fix something, it didn't.

This BSD is on my laptop not a server. Do I need BIND9? Should I try removing it or will that break things? I want freebsd-update to work for me.

I used portmanager, portsnap, and portupgrade, over the last few days trying to get my system up to date thinking that would fix it. I just installed freeBSD last week. I selected some extra packages during the install. After that I just been reading the Handbook and set up my wireless with WPA.

I have to replace my hard drive. The laptop took a fall
to the floor a week ago which is why I was trying BSD.
My Slackware file system was destroyed.

I installed BSD and it was working okay for a few days.
Then I started having this problem, not sure if it was
related to the hard drive, I'm guessing it could have
been a contributing factor.

Anyway, after I started this thread, the next day the
laptop would not even boot all the way. I was getting
error messages about DMA access and uncorrectable errors/
input/output errors. Since then I tried to install some
other OS to no avail, all saying hard disk problem. I
checked the drive and connections. I'm now going to
replace it with a new one and install freeBSD. So I no
longer need help with this problem. Thanks
