FreeBSD invalid partition table error
I have been trying to set up Free BSD 5.1 for a few days now. I always get through the install but I get an "Invalid Partition Table" error on reboot. People have told me that the FreeBSD fdisk utility is not good with large hard drive sizes over 1024 cylinders. I also tried using fdisk off a gentoo install CD because I knew that one worked, but FreeBSD seems to make changes to it. How can I fix this error. I set my partitions up in the following way:
/dev/ad0 - 20 Gigs ----------------------- /dev/ad0s1 - 500 Mb - /tmp /dev/ad0s2 - 1 Gig - /var /dev/ad0s3 - 5 Gigs - /usr/local /dev/ad0s4 - 13.5 Gigs - /home /dev/ad1 - 6.5 Gigs ------------------------- /dev/ad1s1 - 50 Mb - /boot /dev/ad1s2 - 1 Gig - swap /dev/ad1s3 - 2 Gigs - / /dev/ad1s4 - 3.5 Gigs - /usr All partitions are set as primary partitions. Any help appreciated ~Greg |
What boot options do you choose when the pc starts up? F1 or F5?

what boot options F1 or F5?
After install it just comes up with "Invalid Partition Table" and stops. When Installing, I choose Boot FreeBSD which brings me to the install program  ~Greg |
Shouldn't the boot partition be on the first hdd on the first IDE controller?

Yeah, stupid me. I went to my local LUG meeting tonight and we figured that was the problem. Its up and running now. :)
Thanks for the help, Greg |
