I had NetBSD installed earlier, X didnt work(I now know why) but it did find my modem that was connected through USB.

I have now installed FreeBSD, the thing is, with FreeBSD its the other way around, why?

I want to use FreeBSD as a start becouse it doesnt have the same "need" to complicate the installation as NetBSD do and I dont need to fix X so much.

Im stuck, I must use XP becouse I haven't been able to get the internet connection to work with Slack, Redhat, Mandrake or FreeBSD(Im so SICK OF IT).

What version of FreeBSD are you trying? There is a hardware compatibility list on the freebsd.org site. Just a general rule the 5.x version has more drivers/compatibility but the 4.x version has more stability and less bugs.
