FreeBSD AMD 64
 

Hello,

I would like to install FreeBSD5.3 on my AMD64 system.

Because there is no nvidia driver with 3D support (and seemingly no plans to be) for FreeBSD AMD64 I will have to install the i386 version.

Has anyone installed the i386 version of FreeBSD5.3 on an AMD64 system ? Did the standard nvidia driver for FreeBSD work on your system ?

Hi there. I didn't install the Nvidia driver myself. But then again, I didn't need to because I wasn't going to play any games on my machine. I ran FreeBSD in 64 bit mode on my box with a Athlon 3200 and liked it. I found that certain things were broken. This was a long time ago...like a year ago. For example, I couldn't get k3b to work, which I am quite fond of. In all honesty. However, if I were in your shoes, based on what I know about what your doing (which is nothing) I would sacrifice the video for the 64 bit performance. Personal opinion. I now run Debian on the same box in pure 64 bit mode and she screams. I'm still running FreeBSD...just on my P4 now instead....as a workstation.
