im trying to setup an webserver and FTP server, configured my BSD machine with IP address 192.168.1.72 and gateway to 192.168.1.5 (which is a ISA server).
when i try to install apache13 using ports, it tries to connect and fails stating "no address located" and keeps on trying with different address from http to ftp site.
sure i can connect to the internet and FTP using a windowz machine on the same network setup to use 192.168.1.5 as the gateway....
Please help us help you by providing a detailed explanation of the problem and relevant data.
The output of "ifconfig -a", and "netstat -r" would help. Also, if you could output the contents of /etc/resolv.conf and explain what you have and have not done towards setting this up.
From what I can make of your problem (which isn't much) it sounds like you don't have any nameservers configured.
i found out the problem, i can connect to ftp sites by USING their IP ADDRESSESS but cant connect to them by their DNS... so what should i do, each time i have to issue pkg_add -r ftp://128.31.0.28/ instead of pkg_add -r ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/... so how can i fix this issue
Of course, change the values to be correct for your situation. foo.org should be the domain part of your hostname. And the nameservers should be the ip addressed provided to you by your ISP... unless you're running an internal nameserver(s) in which case you would use that as the first one.
thanks frob23, it worked, all i had to do was ADD an additional namserver beside the current one, so i added my ISP's nameserver along with our namserver.
