Exclamation FreeBSD 10.0 on HP ProLiant DL360 G3

Hi folks,

I'm having troubles booting FreeBSD 10.0 from CD (same problem occurred with 9.* however) on a HP ProLiant DL360 G3, it hangs up forever after detecting USB (I'm talking about booting from CD to perform installation).

That server is quite old, so the new FreeBSD versions probably do not support that hardware anymore.

Do you maybe know the existence of an official/reliable "hardware compatibility list" where all the compatible server machines are clearly listed?

On the other hand, FreeBSD 8.* works fine.

Thanks in advance!

d1s4st3r,

Here is a link tothe freeBSD website: http://www.freebsd.org/releases/

Each version has a HARDWARE NOTES link that discusses the recommended/supported hardware...

Hmm..... I think fbsd 9 is when they switched over to the new installer? Maybe coincidence, maybe related??

A hang-up could be a sign of a hardware fault from a driver trying to load and then the hardware locks up due to the fault.

Thanks everyone for the answers.

The problem is that I tried both FreeBSD 9.* and 10.* on many DL360 G3 (just to be sure that no hardware fault was involved).
The last working version, for that specific machine, seems to be FreeBSD 8.4 (which is the one that I'm currently running).

I don't think the responsible would be the new installer, because the machine gets stuck during the *boot* process (the installer would come up later...).

I even tried to disable the "Virtual install disk" from BIOS and the USB controller, but the problem persists.

As a further test, I prepared a DL360 G3 with FreeBSD 8.4, then upgraded it to version 9.* (instead of trying to install 9.* directly from CD). When I rebooted the machine, the problem came up again...

So, I suppose the problem is in the kernel that comes with FreeBSD >= 9.*, that for some strange reason does not support that specific hardware anymore.

I know the existence of the HARDWARE NOTES, but they are not accurate enough...

File a bug with the fbsd team. Have you tried #freebsd on Freenode?
