focus in remote x apps

running kde3 on freebsd 4.5, when I run kmail remotely over X, when I hit reply or new message, or click on a http link, basically anything, it appears behind the main currently active window.

this all works ok when you run a local application.

Any thoughts anyone?

Slow network connection, or not properly configured remote X session settings?
