Dual WinXP/FreeBSD boot

Question:

I was wondering whether FreeBSD still requires a partition within the first 1,024 cylinders or has that changed as it has in Linux?

Also, does anybody use FreeBSD just on the desktop or is it primarily used for servers?

I saw a shrink-wrapped box (PowerPack 5.1) at CompUSA the other day and was thinking of trying it. I would only be using it for desktop use. I've been using Slackware for the past couple of years and thought about changing. Love Slack but am curious about BSD.

I have to keep Win on my box as it's shared with a family member who needs the Win hand-holding. Just wondered if I can use FreeBSD in my partition currently occupied with Slack (will delete it) without slicing into Win?

The FreeBSD installer should be just like slack (its been a while since i last used). It will wipe our your slack partition and replace it with BSD. FreeBSD can be used as a desktop OS, however some of the most popular linux apps arn't supported for BSD. BSD is UNIX, not LINUX. Its just Free UNIX.

Here was my experience with FreeBSD. It looks similar, tastes similar, but feels differen't. Its kind of like wearing someone elses underwear. It serves the same purpose, but its just not the feel for me.
