Configuring XFree86

Ok, I successfully installed FreeBSD 4.8. I also managed to configure XFree86 after many attempts, however, I seem to need some tips on how to solve a few problems.

I have configured XFree86 using "xf86config" (Shell-script based XFree86 configuration tool). During the configuration, I selected the video modes as 342, "800x600" "1024x768" "640x480", with a default mode of 800x600. How do I make the video modes as 432, with a default mode of 1024x768?

When I use the 1024x768 video mode, the layout of the screen is well-placed; I can reach icons and the limits of my screen easily with my mouse. However, with the other modes ("800x600", "640x480") I have to drag my mouse downward to reach icons or in any other directions to reach the limits of any window that's open. How do I fix this problem?

Lastly, when I boot FreeBSD, I have F1 (???) and F2 (FreeBSD) to select Windows and FreeBSD bootings; which file do I have to edit to rename (???) to "Windows"?

Any tips will be appreciated.

For having to move your mouse up and down at 800x600, that is called "Virtual Desktop" , find the option in the config file and remove it.

Tuvok,

Make a copy of your current config:

/etc/X11>cp XF86Config XF86Config.bak

And run 'xf86config' again, this time pick 'n' for virtual desktop and make sure you change the resolution order to 432. For me that's the easiest way to get it done. I don't like going into the XF86Config file for editing too much.
