configuring domain/host name
hey all, i am a slackware use and i just installed freeBSD on an old box to give it a try. I like what I see. pkg_add and ports are super cool. but I need some help.
first, in slackware, i use the program 'netconfig' to setup my comp to use my dyndns account. I didn't see this prog in ports, and I need to no what file to edit so that i can get my website up. second, i my old comp is a Pentium III 733, with 386MB of ram. When I run kde, things are really slow. I can use fluxbox and the other minimal DE's so that's not really a big deal, but I think I should get better performance than I am. When sitting idle in KDE my cpu is running at like 3 -7%, and when I start opening things (like firefox), my cpu jumps to 100%, and things slow down. Anyone else have this problem on older boxes? thanks! |

KDE is getting pretty heavy weight. Fluxbox (or blackbox, or icewm) are good alternatives, too. Cheers-- Charles |
thanks, charles.
