computer is nameless??
i have two BSD machines in my house, and neither has a "name" according to my router.
i'm kind of confused by this, as i believe they both have "host names" is there a different name to set that it broadcasts to things like my router? cheers again, Tenshi |
If you don't pass in the option to your dhcp client to tell the dhcp server your hostname then you will not broadcast a name at all...

edit the /etc/dhclient.conf file and your router will get the info.

Yes! Thank you.
I added the line: send host-name "myhost"; to my /etc/dhclient.conf file, it solved the problem without further headaches. Thank you so much :D I figured this one was easy, but I just didn't know which file to turn to. thanks again, Tenshi :study: |
