Command for setting CMOS clock to UTC?

Hello folks!!

I am planning to install FreeBSD 6.0...And I would like to ask a question regarding the time..

During the installation part when it asks me if my:

CMOS clock is set to UTC or not
And if I select YES, will sysinstall adjust the CMOS clock to UTC automatically or not when I select YES during installation?

If NOT, Is there a command in FreeBSD to tell it to adjust the CMOS/RTC clock to UTC? If there is, what is the command I can do?

And...I want my actual DISPLAYED time which sits on the desktop to be diplayed in local time. But I do want the CMOS/RTC clock to show time in UTC...But is there a command for this or not?

thanks.

Sysinstall will not change your system clock to UTC. You can change the clock to UTC by yourself in the BIOS. During installation, just make sure the system knows your clock is set to UTC, select your local time zone and the time will always be shown in your local time zone. You can also use NTP to make sure your clock is always correct.

So there is no actual command to set the RTC/CMOS clock to UTC??? ONLY I can change it if I go into the BIOS?

Like for example:

If my local time in the BIOS or CMOS clock is 00:00 (which is Pacific local time), then I would just change the hour to 07:00 (which is 7 HOURS) ahead? Because since I am located in the Pacific Time Zone, UTC is 7 hours AHEAD FROM my location during the Summer Daylight Savings Time...

Am I correct or wrong??

And since my BIOS or CMOS clock does not have a selection to select UTC, I can just do the above like how I explained...Am I correct?

thanks...Please let me knoe if Im correct or wrong.

I also have never seen an option for UTC in any CMOS settings. The method you suggested for setting UTC is the same as the one I use. My system clock is always set to UTC (which is 0 to 2 hours behind my local time depending on where I am). During installation, I always make sure the system knows that the clock is set to UTC, select my timezone and the system always displays the local time (unless I choose to display a different timezone).

There sould be a way to adjust the CMOS clock from withing FreeBSD but I have never seen it in sysinstall.

If my local time in the BIOS or CMOS clock is 00:00 (which is Pacific local time), then I would just change the hour to 07:00 (which is UTC) Right? Because I am located in the Pacific Time Zone,

Is this the correct way to do it before installing? And then during the installation, then I should select YES to CMOS clock set to UTC...So is this the right way? So all I need to know if I did this the right way as I described above. Am I right using the example above?
